Eight year old Melanie Fisher can't remember a time when she was included in classroom activities. Her peers seem to ignore her, and the professor never calls on her. In fact, nobody pays her any mind...until a new student transfers to her school. She takes a leap of faith and tries to talk to Toby Yeoman, the transfer student, and is surprised when he becomes her best friend.
